Allen Doane Named A&B-Hawaii President.
"Allen Doane has provided A&B-Hawaii's agribusiness and property development and management operations with energetic and imaginative leadership," said Couch. "And he has done it through a period of enormous challenge -- a slow economy, a time of great transition in Hawaii's sugar industry, the severe blow dealt to our various Kauai operations by Hurricane Iniki, and the problem of generating growth in property activity during a period of stagnation in the real estate markets. Allen has helped us meet these challenges; he has certainly earned this promotion."
Doane also serves as chairman of the board of directors of the Hawaiian Sugar Planters' Association and as a director of the Hawaiian Sugar & Transportation Cooperative. He is a member of the boards of the American Heart Association-Hawaii Affiliate, the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, the Hawaii Employers Council, and La Pietra-Hawaii School for Girls, and he serves on the executive committee of the Polynesian Cultural Center board of directors. Before coming to ABHI, Doane was chief operating officer of The Shidler Group, a nationally prominent real estate investment/management firm which owns and manages office, retail and industrial properties. Prior to that, he was group vice president of IU International Corporation, former parent company of C. Brewer & Co., from 1985 to 1988. Doane joined C. Brewer in 1975, and in 1979 he was transferred to Philadelphia, IU's corporate headquarters. Doane is a graduate of Brigham Young University and holds a master's in business administration from Harvard Business School. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for four years.
A&B is a diversified Hawaii-based company, founded as a partnership in 1870 and incorporated in 1900, whose principal subsidiaries are Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (ocean transportation and marine container leasing) and ABHI (property development and management, and food products). (NASDAQ: ALEX)
