Allegiant Air Expands Fleet With Modern, Quiet MD-87 Aircraft; Long Range, Fuel Efficient Jets Will Enable Non-Stop Trans-Con Flights for Airline's Charters.

Allegiant Air Allegiant Air is an American low fare airline, owned by Allegiant Travel Co. (NASDAQ: ALGT), headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The airline operates scheduled and charter flights from focus cities at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, Orlando Sanford  today announced that it has acquired two, modern Boeing MD-87 jet aircraft that will enable the company to substantially expand its charter and scheduled airline operations.

Allegiant Air has been preparing the first of the two aircraft for service since it was delivered to the company in December. The second aircraft will be delivered to the airline's Fresno offices at Fresno Yosemite Airport later this month. The MD-87s are configured con·fig·ure

 of 500 miles per hour. The aircraft is powered by twin Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 engines. The MD-87 is a Stage III aircraft meeting reduced noise emission standards Emission standards are requirements that set specific limits to the amount of pollutants that can be released into the environment. Many emission standards focus on regulating pollutants released by automobiles (motor cars) and other powered vehicles but they can also regulate  for take-off and landing.

"The MD-87 provides the necessary range, passenger capacity and overall operating efficiency the Company needs to place us among the premier charter operators in the U.S.," Gallagher said. "With its `hot and high' capability, it is particularly suitable for operations here in the West. This aircraft will enable us to take a full passenger load cross-country from any airport in the Western U.S."
