Allegiance Helps Eliminate the Ills of Patient Feedback Management for Holy Cross Hospital.

Ft. Lauderdale hospital deploys Web-based feedback management tool to improve patient communications and care

SALT LAKE CITY -- Communicating with patients and understanding their needs is critical for award-winning Holy Cross Hospital Holy Cross Hospital may refer to:

In the United Kingdom:
  • Holy Cross Hospital — Haslemere, Surrey, England
In the United States:
  • Holy Cross Hospital — Nogales, Arizona
  • Holy Cross Hospital — Fort Lauderdale, Florida
, a 571-bed medical facility in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. To help capture and manage patient feedback, Holy Cross turned to Allegiance allegiance, in political terms, the tie that binds an individual to another individual or institution. The term usually refers to a person's legal obligation of obedience to a government in return for the protection of that government, although it may have reference , Inc., the leading provider of on-demand enterprise feedback management (EFM (Ethernet in the First Mile) Using Ethernet to provide connectivity from the customer to the carrier. See 802.3ah. ) solutions. The hospital deployed PatientVoice, a Web-based tool that is one component of a larger EFM platform offered by Allegiance.

PatientVoice simplifies the feedback management process and makes it easier for patients to communicate with the hospital regarding their care. Once feedback is captured in PatientVoice, it is automatically categorized cat·e·go·rize

and then routed to the appropriate department manager for a timely and appropriate response. Whether it comes through a call to guest relations, a letter or email to the hospital or via the Web, all feedback is entered into PatientVoice to ensure that it is captured and tracked in a consistent way.

"For us, having an electronic tracking system for patient feedback has been great," said Gina Seneca, manager of guest relations at Holy Cross Hospital. "It is 2007, and healthcare is notoriously behind in technology, so it is nice to be able to go 'paperless' as much as possible. Previously, we had triplicate tracking sheets with basically the same information, which had to be manually compiled, sorted and analyzed. Now, I can go online from wherever I am, review the feedback, route it to the appropriate department or individual, produce reports on aggregated feedback data, and close resolved cases. It has simplified the feedback gathering process and made it easier for our patients to get their questions or comments directly to the hospital's decision makers."

PatientVoice also helps health care organizations, such as Holy Cross, to satisfy goal 13 of The Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals, which was created to "encourage patients' active involvement in their own care as a patient safety strategy." To achieve the goal, organizations are being asked to "define and communicate the means for patients and their families to report concerns about safety and encourage them to do so." With PatientVoice, Holy Cross patients can communicate quickly and easily with the hospital by simply visiting the "Contact Us" page on Holy Cross Hospital's Web site and clicking on "Guest Relations."

"PatientVoice is a valuable EFM tool that helps health care organizations to better understand the real-time needs of their patients and identify ways to improve the patient experience," said Adam Edmunds, president and chief executive officer of Allegiance, Inc. "Our Web-based tool provides a comfortable and convenient forum for patients to express their concerns, provide suggestions, report a complaint or send a compliment Not to be confused with Complement.
Compliment may be
  • An expression of praise, congratulation or encouragement.
  • A misspelling for complement, meaning something which makes the original object complete.
. Having this inside knowledge can help hospitals to identify and resolve trends, quickly resolve issues before they turn into bigger problems, and make more informed decisions that can positively impact patient care and risk management."

Holy Cross now has a central location for all patient feedback, which is managed by guest relations manager, Gina Seneca. Once the feedback is received, Seneca works with nurse managers and hospital administrators to make sure each item receives the appropriate attention and then tracks the item through to resolution. With the data stored in a central location, Seneca can produce reports that help identify trends and better understand patient satisfaction.
