Electricity makes life better - providing us with comfort, protection, pleasure and convenience.

However, Allegheny Power would like to remind you that electricity can also be very dangerous, and it's up to adults to protect children, especially around electricity.

"The safety of the public is a key concern for Allegheny Power," states Ron Magnuson, Vice President, Customer Affairs of Allegheny Power. "Our message for everyone, especially children is simple - stay away from all electrical facilities all the time. We are concerned that young people may try to copy the scene or think that they can safely touch a power line. The act is extremely dangerous and would likely result in severe injuries or death."

Allegheny Power offers these safety tips for kids:

- Never climb poles or towers that hold up electric lines
- Never climb trees near electric lines
- Never play near substations or climb substation fences
- Stay away from all areas marked, "Danger, High Voltage"
- Never fly kites near electric lines
