Allegheny Power Prepares for Hurricane Floyd.


HAGERSTOWN, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 1999--

Hurricane Floyd was the sixth named storm, fourth hurricane, and third major hurricane in the 1999 Atlantic hurricane season.

"We are well aware of what a storm the size of Hurricane Floyd can do and we have been making preparations all week for its arrival," said Jim Haney Jim Haney was the head basketball coach at University of Oregon from 1978 to 1983. Haney resigned after five years because of his uninspiring record. The University of Oregon basketball program had a record of 52-80, including 26-61 in the Pac Ten conference while Haney was the , Vice President, Customer Operations for Allegheny Power. "We are carefully monitoring weather reports and our restoration teams have been making preparations so we can respond quickly should the storm affect our service area. Our line crews, support personnel, and contractors are on standby and we are planning for their response to the storm."

"We have received calls from other East Coast utilities asking if our crews will be available for assistance and we have contacted other utilities asking the same question," said Haney. "Our first obligation is to provide and restore service to our own customers before we consider providing assistance to other companies."

- Flashlights and extra batteries.

- Matches and a supply of candles.

- A battery-powered radio with extra batteries.
