Allegheny Power Launches Enrollment for Voluntary Wind Energy Program.

Electric Customers in Pennsylvania Can Now Support Renewable Power

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- Allegheny Power's Pennsylvania customers now have the option to enroll in a new wind energy program. Customers will receive information and enrollment forms with their February bill.

The voluntary program provides any customer the option to pay an additional charge for the purchase of wind energy credits. These credits can be purchased in blocks of 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh) for $2.50 per block. The additional cost will support the operations and development of existing and future wind energy projects.

In addition to supporting wind energy, a portion of the supplemental charge will benefit the West Penn Power Sustainable Energy Fund, which promotes clean energy technologies throughout the region.

"We're committed to environmental stewardship, and we realize our customers are interested in renewable energy," said Paul J. Evanson, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Allegheny Energy. "Our Pennsylvania customers now have the opportunity to take an active role in supporting the development of electricity from a clean, renewable source."

It is estimated that signing up for 200 kWh of wind power per month for a year has the same annual environmental benefit as planting over an acre of trees or not driving 4,000 miles. Allegheny has partnered with Community Energy, Inc., a leading wind energy marketer and developer, to implement and market the program.

Allegheny Power customers can sign up or learn more about the Renewable Energy Program by visiting www.alleghenypower.com/windenergy, calling 1-888-908-0010, or visiting Community Energy's Web page, www.NewWindEnergy.com.
