Allegheny Power Customers to Begin Enrolling in Customer Choice Program.GREENSBURG, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 25, 1998--Enrollment packets will be mailed this week to Allegheny Power's 663,000 Pennsylvania Pennsylvania (pĕnsəlvā`nyə), one of the Middle Atlantic states of the United States. It is bordered by New Jersey, across the Delaware River (E), Delaware (SE), Maryland (S), West Virginia (SW), Ohio (W), and Lake Erie and New York customers, giving them the opportunity to participate in the state's phase-in to competition in the electric utility industry. The direct mailing coincides with the June 25 statewide kick off of the phase-in process, known as Pennsylvania ElectriChoice. Under the program, up to two-thirds of all Pennsylvania residents will have the opportunity to choose their electric generation supplier as of January 1999. Allegheny Power customers will receive a letter, postage-paid reply card, and a brochure, detailing the first step of the two-step process for participation - how to enroll. Beginning July 1, customers may return the reply card to be considered. If more than two-thirds of Allegheny Power customers enroll by Aug. 28, a lottery lottery, scheme for distributing prizes by lot or other method of chance selection to persons who have paid for the opportunity to win. The term is not applicable when lots are drawn without payment by the interested parties to determine some matter, e.g. will be held among the enrollees to select the participants. If not, Allegheny Power will continue to enroll residential customers on a first-come, first-served “FCFS” redirects here.
