Allegheny Energy Announces Bond Issuance and Redemption of Higher-Cost Debt.

:AYE) announced today that its subsidiary, Monongahela Power Company, will issue $70 million (principal amount) of first mortgage bonds with a coupon of 5 3/8 percent and a 10-year maturity.

The proceeds will be used to redeem redeem v. to buy back, as when an owner who had mortgaged his/her real property pays off the debt. The term also refers to paying the amount due and all charges after a foreclosure (due to failure to make payments when due) has begun.  Monongahela Power's 7 5/8 percent first mortgage bonds ($70 million principal) due May 2025 at a price of $102.953 per $100 of principal. Allegheny expects to complete the new bond issuance and the redemption on October 17, 2005, and November 16, 2005, respectively. The company expects to reduce interest expense by approximately $1.3 million per year as a result of this transaction.
