Allegheny Announces Virginia Supreme Court Ruling.

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- Allegheny Energy, Inc. (NYSE: AYE) today announced that the Virginia Supreme Court has upheld the State Corporation Commission of Virginia's denial of The Potomac Edison Company's April 2007 request for full recovery of increased purchased power costs. A second appeal to the court, covering the company's September 2007 rate request, is still pending.

"We are extremely disappointed with the court's ruling," said David E. Flitman, President of Allegheny Power. "We must be able to fully recover our cost of purchasing power to maintain Potomac Edison's financial integrity."

The company plans to file an application with the commission by July 1, 2008, for proposed recovery of purchased power costs for the 12-month period beginning July 1, 2008, in accordance with the commission's directive.
