Allan aims to be third force.

SCOTLAND'S Allan McNish will start the 1000-mile Petit Le Mans in his Audi behind rivals Peugeot.

The 40-year-old Dumfries racer will set off in the penultimate round of the American Le Mans Series in Atlanta from third after being outpaced by the two French teams.

McNish, who is joined in the Audi team by Italian Rinaldo Capello, said: "It's going to be a great fight."

Fellow Scot Marino Franchitti bagged his third successive pole in the LMP2 class. The 30-year-old said: "Boy, that was a blinder."

BERWICK BANDITS lost speedway's Young Shield quarter-final first leg 57-37 to Workington Comets at Shielfield.
