NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2000

In a download that will be felt throughout the world, DiffuseNetwork Inc. today launched AllCast(TM), a revolutionary new software platform based on a patented implementation of peer-to-peer networking See peer-to-peer network.  for Internet Webcasting. AllCast will enable Webcasters to deliver live events at a fraction of current costs, and allow millions to tune into live Webcasts simultaneously.

DiffuseNetwork holds the world's first patent on a "cascading" peer-to-peer networking technology (U.S. Patent No.US05884031, granted March 16, 1999). Current Internet transmission systems are unable to connect to many users simultaneously at a low cost. The emitting e·mit

server is subject to a bottleneck A lessening of throughput. It often refers to networks that are overloaded, which is caused by the inability of the hardware and transmission lines to support the traffic. It can also refer to a mismatch inside the computer where slower-speed peripheral buses and devices prevent the CPU  effect, which can cause the Webcast to fail. With AllCast, the Webcaster doesn't need to transmit data to all the users, but only to a handful of select top-level users, who then cascade the content in real time to other users in a Webcaster-controlled and configured environment.

"AllCast is the technological missing link that will enable Webcasters to become broadcasters in the truest sense of the word," said Jacky Benmoha, chief executive officer, DiffuseNetwork. "AllCast is a powerful enabling technology that will make it possible for almost any individual to become a Webcaster. It will also give existing Webcasters, such as television networks, cable channels, radio stations and other live content owners, a means to deliver content more profitably and efficiently, while reducing the infrastructure costs and complexity associated with typical large-scale Webcasting solutions."

AllCast will slash the need for and costs of bandwidth for the Webcaster, which now accounts for 30 percent or more of total Webcasting costs. Lower costs will enable Webcasters to focus their resources on marketing the event, rather than on maintaining the infrastructure.

Webcasters may download the beta version A pre-shipping release of hardware or software that has gone through alpha test. The AllCast plug-in is quick to download and makes participating in an AllCast Webcast with the Windows Media Player effortless.

"DiffuseNetwork has overcome the critical barriers to large scale Webcasting - technology and cost - and, at the same time, protects all of the intellectual property rights of content providers. The low operating cost and limitless reach of AllCast ensures that Webcasters with popular content can meet rapid increases in demand for their Webcasts in real time. And, they'll be able to do so without corresponding increases in technology investment," Benmoha said.

"Our technology defines a new edge in the Internet - that of the peer. AllCast's peer-to-peer network (1) A network of computers configured to allow certain files and folders to be shared with everyone or with selected users. Peer-to-peer networks are quite common in small offices that do not use a dedicated file server.  eliminates the problem of highly capital-intensive solutions to facilitate content distribution at the edge," said William LaMartin, DiffuseNetwork's chief software architect. "It brings a whole new level of content delivery efficiency to both Webcaster and user."

Added Benmoha: "Webcasting is becoming a second force after traditional broadcasting systems - TV, cable and radio - with the peer-to-peer platform emerging as a powerhouse for fast Internet delivery. Whether you're a large-scale content provider like the networks or a niche player, AllCast is the tool that will ensure universal access to top-quality images, sounds and content at a nominal cost."
