He also held the Sardinian title Baron Profumo. to be honoured by the government is gathering momentum. A motion calling for the 88-year-old former War Secretary to be reinstated as a Privy Councillor has been signed by more than 30 MPs. The campaign, launched in May, is led by Labour MP Frank Field, who wrote to Tony Blair calling for Mr Profumo to be reinstated as a member of the Privy Council Privy Council Historically, the British sovereign's private council. Once powerful, the Privy Council has long ceased to be an active body, having lost most of its judicial and political functions since the middle of the 17th century. , an important and historic body which oversees Parliamentary procedures. Mr Profumo resigned from the Commons as Harold Macmillan's War Minister in 1963, amid a blaze of publicity over his affair with call girl Christine Keeler, who was also involved with a Russian spy.
