Launched in 1982 by Allen Neuharth, head of the Gannett newspaper chain, it reached a circulation of one million within a year and surpassed two million in the 1990s. seeks nominations for outstanding teachers and instructional teams for its fourth annual All-USA Teacher Team. The 20 individuals and instructional teams named to the First Team will be featured in USA TODAY in October October: see month. and will be flown to the Washington, D.C., area for an awards luncheon to receive trophies and checks for $2,500 for their schools. Teachers may be nominated nom·i·nate tr.v. nom·i·nat·ed, nom·i·nat·ing, nom·i·nates 1. To propose by name as a candidate, especially for election. 2. To designate or appoint to an office, responsibility, or honor. by anyone willing to describe their accomplishments. Teams of up to five teachers who team teach are eligible to be nominated as an instructional team. Nominations must be postmarked by June 30, 2001.
