All-CNC Ultrasonic Unit Extends Welding Accuracy.

What are termed "the world's first fully digital ultrasonic welding Ultrasonic welding is an industrial whereby high-frequency ultrasonic acoustic vibrations are used to weld objects together, usually plastics, and especially for joining dissimilar materials.  systems" are being introduced in North America by Herrmann Ultrasonics ultrasonics, study and application of the energy of sound waves vibrating at frequencies greater than 20,000 cycles per second, i.e., beyond the range of human hearing.  in Schaumburg, Ill. Its newest systems, which come in 20-kHz and 35-kHz versions and up to 5000 W of power, utilize a new 100%-digital, 100% software-based ultrasonic generator. It is said to compensate automatically for variations in line voltage. Company sources say most other ultrasonic generators use analog components whose performance can vary due to aging and wear, as well as temperature changes. But Herrmann's new Digital Signal Processing See DSP.

and remain precisely consistent," claims executive v.p. Dominic Friederich. The new digital generators reportedly are also more accurate at "learning" the acoustic behavior of each horn and adjusting automatically to prevent horn damage.

These systems utilize the new Windows PC-based Dialog touchscreen controller. It stores up to 200 CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) See numerical control.
