O'Donnell began his career with Motherwell F.C. and in 1991 at the age of 18 won a Scottish Cup winners medal after scoring for the Motherwell team that beat Dundee United 4-3 in the 1991 , who collapsed and died on the pitch last month. The club revealed it is to rename Fir Park's main stand in memory of the star. A plaque will be unveiled at the start of next season.
