"We are well aware of the threat that is posed to the election. We are regularly reviewing the situation and the security establishment in the state. We do understand that attempts will make to disrupt the election. But, we will do everything possible to render those attempts unsuccessful," Abdullah said. When asked about the communal remarks made by the Bharatiya Janata Party Bharatiya Janata party (bär`ətēə jän`ətə) [Hindi,=Indian People's party] (BJP), Indian political party that espouses Hindu nationalism. (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi, Abdullah said that strongest action should be taken in such cases. "The fact that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has taken a strong stand and I think it is good. It would teach everybody a lesson, who wishes to use religion as a tool in politics. Hate speeches will find no place in politics. Strong action should be taken in such cases," he added. The general elections are scheduled to be held between April 16 and May 13, in which 714 million people will cast their votes.
