All for oil.

Destiny had something in store for Ibrahim Homeod Salim al Waili from childhood, otherwise he would not have studied engineering. His parents wanted him to study medicine, but his decision was proved right recently, when he achieved first place in the masterAAEs division of the International Student Paper Contest, organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

His paper Au AaeDeveloping generalised capillary pressure In fluid statics, capillary pressure is the difference in pressure across the interface between two immiscible fluids. The pressure difference is proportional to the surface tension,  curves and saturation height function for Shuaiba carbonate reservoirsAAE Au saw off submissions by other participants at the New Orleans New Orleans (ôr`lēənz –lənz, ôrlēnz`), city (2006 pop. 187,525), coextensive with Orleans parish, SE La., between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, 107 mi (172 km) by water from the river mouth; founded  meeting earlier this month.  Ibrahim, by using the method outlined in his paper it is possible to extract five per cent more oil than that extrac-ted by the technologies currently used by oil companies. It also helps reduce the time taken to assess the exact amount of oil in a particular reservoir.

Currently, the methods used need at least six years to pinpoint the exact amount of oil in a reservoir, he said. Through his method, this calculation can be done within six months, claims Ibrahim, who is working in PDO PDO Php Data Objects (PHP extension)

as a reservoir engineer. Given that oil reservoirs in Oman are hard to excavate, this is no mean achievement. Ibrahim earlier worked for Schlumberger in Iran and France. Oil is found in Oman among

carbonate rock and clastic rock. The latter is easy to excavate and the country has been banking on the fields based among clastic rock in a major way since 1970. Since IbrahimAAEs theory is focused on

carbonate rocks, it has become a milestone as far the oil and gas industry in Oman is concerned.

During the 70s, oil prices were not very in the international market, which meant Oman could not afford costly drilling technologies. Currently, the scenario is different and Oman is in a position to put into use costly

technologies to explore oil. As a result, the discovery will become useful for Oman in the future, said Ibrahim.

He did his research at Sultan Qaboos University Sultan Qaboos University, located in Muscat, Oman, , is the only public university in the Sultanate of Oman. Named after Qaboos bin Sa’id Al ‘Bu Sa’id the Sultan of Oman, the university opened its doors in 1986.  under the supervision of Issa Abu-Sheikha and Akram al Kasaab from PDO and Rashid al Mamari from SQU SQU Sultan Qaboos University (Oman)

. Buoyed up by the success of this theory, Ibrahim is all set to join the Shell Research Centre to take his studies to a higher level. There should be more research in Oman, he said, adding that it could be done through joint ventures with the private sector and the government. AoI want more Omanis to get international recognition.Ao

Ibrahim, who is a member of the PDO football team, travels a lot. He has already visited ten European countries, besides the US and other Arab countries. The father of two children is a fan of Formula One, karting and jet skiing and has a passion for speed and anything that is unusual. When asked what vocation he would have chosen had he not been an engineer, he said, AoOf course, a pilot.Ao
