Built as part of Edward 1's `Iron Ring',Caernarfon Castle sits in a strategically important position at the southern end of the Menai Strait close to agriculturally rich Anglesey whilst also accessible to both the north and western coasts of Wales.

In 1969, the Investiture investiture, in feudalism, ceremony by which an overlord transferred a fief to a vassal or by which, in ecclesiastical law, an elected cleric received the pastoral ring and staff (the symbols of spiritual office) signifying the transfer of the office.  of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales took place here.
