All about 'One D': this is our once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You probably heard the buzz this past November when the Detroit Regional Chamber and five other leading business and civic organizations announced a new regional alliance called One D: Transforming Regional Detroit. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] This issue of the Detroiter gives you the full story on this unprecedented initiative and the people at our partner organizations. We believe this collaborative approach is the only way to achieve a true, long-term Long-term Three or more years. In the context of accounting, more than 1 year. long-term 1. I'm looking forward to working closely with great leaders like Maud Maud: see Matilda, queen of England. Lyon of the Cultural Alliance of Southeastern Michigan, Doug Rothwell of Detroit Renaissance, Larry Alexander of the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau, Shirley Stancato of New Detroit and Mike Brennan of United Way for Southeastern Michigan. One D would not have been possible without the groundwork laid by the Chamber's Design Regional Detroit initiative. In our "community conversations" last year across the 10-county Detroit Region, the message was clear: We need more regional cooperation. We've got a lot of hard work ahead of us. We expect to hit some rough spots along the way. An initiative of this size and scope will entail entail, in law, restriction of inheritance to a limited class of descendants for at least several generations. The object of entail is to preserve large estates in land from the disintegration that is caused by equal inheritance by all the heirs and by the ordinary some old-fashioned "blood, sweat and tears." But I'm confident that we will achieve our long-term objectives with your support - and your participation - as members of the Detroit Regional Chamber. Another reason I'm confident is that we have Edsel B. Ford II serving as our lead champion. In his message on page 19, he issues a challenge I'd like to repeat here: "If we don't act now, we may not have this chance again." This prestigious event is an unparalleled opportunity to spotlight the Detroit Region as the world's automotive "brain center" in terms of innovation, technology and research and development. My thanks and congratulations to Rod Alberts, executive director of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, and this year's NAIAS senior co-chairs, Bob Thibodeau and Carl Galeana, for their tireless efforts to make this show the best ever.
