They were the only Girlguiding Division in the country to mark its 100th anniversary on a steam train. The Brownies and Guides wanted to take a trip on the LDPE's summer steam trains from Liverpool, but these ended before the centenary weekend. Instead, a special train was arranged for the 18 units of 326 Rainbows, Brownies, Girl Guidies, leaders and Trefoil trefoil (trē`foil) [O.Fr.,=three-leaf], in botany, name for several plants, chiefly of the pulse family, having trifoliate leaves. Best known of the trefoils is clover. Group ex-guiders. They were "flagged off" by the Mayor of St Helens, Cllr Terry Sheilds, from St Helens Junction to York and back. A special headboard was made for the train and the Scots List of Scots is an incomplete list of notable people from Scotland. It was also the first time this 1927-built locomotive, which starred in the film Night Mail, had visited Liverpool since 1965. Joanne Griffiths, St Helens Girlguiding divisional commissioner, said: "My heart nearly stopped in excitement when I saw the train arrive from Liverpool. "It looked fantastic with our name on the front. Everyone was so excited and we had a fantastic day out." During the journey, the youngsters worked on their Centenary Time Travel Challenge project. And Joanne added: "This is a great memory-maker. Already, they're all asking me where we're going to be going next year on the steam train."
