All Verizon Wireless Retail Stores Now Open to Serve Storm-Struck Residents in Southeast, Southwest Florida; Special Structure Erected In Fort Lauderdale In Place Of Storm-Damaged Store.

Boca Raton is a popular resort and retirement community that experienced significant industrial development in the 1970s and 80s. , Fla. -- Verizon Wireless Cellco Partnership, doing business as Verizon Wireless, owns and operates the second largest wireless telecommunications network in the United States, based on total wireless customers.  reported today that all 56 of the company's retail locations in southwest and southeast Florida struck by Hurricane Wilma Hurricane Wilma was the most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin. Exceeding the 21 storms of the 1933 season, Wilma was the twenty-second storm (including the subtropical storm discovered in reanalysis), thirteenth hurricane, sixth major hurricane, and fourth  have reopened for regular business, with each location offering free local and long-distance calls, battery charging and technical support to residents still suffering in the wake of the storm. Verizon Wireless has a total of 119 retail locations, including kiosks in select Circuit City stores, throughout the entire state.

The company's post-hurricane restoration effort includes the Verizon Wireless store at 1996 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale Fort Lauderdale (lô`dərdāl), residential, commercial, and resort city (1990 pop. 149,377), seat of Broward co., SE Fla., on the Atlantic coast; settled around a fort built (c.1837) in the Seminole War, inc. 1911. . The building was severely damaged by Wilma, but a temporary yet air-conditioned, full-service tent has been erected on the site to serve local customers until the permanent location is fully reconstructed. Construction crews are working to re-open the store by Thanksgiving.

Store hours at the temporary location currently are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and on Sundays, 12 noon to 5 p.m. Store manager Chris Gambino may be reached at 561-254-0735.

"Our retail stores provide valuable services for residents - regardless of which wireless carrier they currently use - and we've worked extremely hard to reopen our stores to serve these communities in the wake of Wilma," said Carol Fink, director of retail sales for Verizon Wireless in Florida.
