All Statewide Fresh Choice Restaurants Serve Up A Variety of ``California Grown'' Menu Items.


SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Major self-service restaurant chain helps launch popular agricultural program into food service industry

All 37 Fresh Choice restaurants located throughout California now offer more than 20 "California Grown" menu options as part of a special partnership that begins today. Committed to tasty, fresh, high-quality food at an economical price since its inception in 1986, Fresh Choice is helping launch the statewide "California Grown" program into the food service industry. The promotion will continue through September 30, 2004.

As part of its extensive selection of freshly prepared pastas, soups, pizza, baked goods and desserts, as well as the elaborate salad bar, Fresh Choice restaurants will offer clearly labeled "California Grown" items, some of which include the following: cheese, cling peaches, garlic, grapes, milk, raisins, strawberries, tomatoes, walnuts and wine.

) that oversees the "California Grown" program. "We want to educate California consumers about the importance of choosing locally grown products and the sizable impact everyday choices - like which restaurant to visit or menu item to select - have on the state's economy."

The economic impact of choosing California grown products is significant. In fact, a study conducted last year(1) showed that if Californians were to shift their purchases of California grown products by just 10% annually, it would result in 5,565 new jobs throughout the state and nearly $1.38 billion in additional spending due to increased business activity.
