The company's base business sales growth of 13% contributed $70.5 million to the increase, while a majority of the remaining increase is attributable to the acquisition of the Horizon business. The company, which has a history of beating guidance, remains on the All Star Analyst Portfolio.

Wachovia Corporation (NYSE:WB) enjoyed record results in three of its four major businesses in the second quarter. Earnings per share of $1.18, excluding items, improved from $1.07 in the year-ago quarter. The result also bettered the consensus by approximately 2.6%. Revenue advanced 14% year over year to $7.26 billion, helped by the Westcorp acquisition and organic growth. The company said its fundamentals remain strong with improving overhead efficiency, stellar asset quality and industry-leading customer service. There is some concern in the market regarding WB's proposed merger with Golden West Financial, but the company is excited about its prospects and remains a favorite in its industry with the All Stars.
