All Star AES 123rd Convention Education Panel to Enlighten Students.

NEW YORK -- "123rd AES Convention Education Chair Jason Corey has developed one of our most comprehensive and ambitious Student Programs," reports AES Executive Director Roger Furness. "In addition to long-established Career Workshop, Recording and Design Competitions, a 2nd annual Technical Paper Competition and an information-packed Education Fair, this year will mark the introduction of an All Star Education Forum Panel. Student attendees will have access to unprecedented career-building insights provided by some of the most astute, connected and accessible members of the professional audio community," Furness adds.

Scheduled for Sunday, October 7th, the All Star Education Forum Panel Chaired by Mark Parsons of Parsons Audio & Center for Audio Studies, will focus on how -- and how well -- audio education is preparing prospective professionals for the marketplace. Members of this super-group include: Jim Anderson, Chairman of the NYU Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music, AES 123 Convention Chair, and a recording engineer whose work has accrued multiple Grammy Awards; Alex Case, Convention Tutorials & Workshop Chair/U. of Mass. Professor; and Dave Moulton of Sausalito Audio Works, a Grammy nominated engineer, producer and a committed educator.

Other All Star Panel participants will include: Eddy B. Brixen, a leading audio consultant with Denmark's EEB; Digidesign's Dave Lebolt and Zoe Thrall director of The Studio At The Palms in Las Vegas, former GM of NY's legendary Hit Factory and one of the most astute members of the Pro Audio Industry.

The issues to be addressed by this panel will include:

* What skills need more emphasis

* Future-proofing: teaching skills

* How to get the most for your education dollar

* Mistakes students should avoid.

INSIDE THE JOB INTERVIEW: What To Expect -- a two hour panel Chaired by John Strawn, Principal of Larkspur, CA-based S Systems, and a respected technical consultant, researcher and recruiter.

WORKSHOPS ON INTERNSHIPS AND ENTRY-LEVEL POSITIONS Chaired by Gary Gottlieb, Assistant Professor, Webster University, independent recording engineer and producer.

CAREERS WORKSHOP Chaired by Keith Hatschek, Head of the Music Management Program At the University of The Pacific, author, and music industry consultant.

RECORDING COMPETITION -- STEREO & SURROUND: A long-time Convention high point, provides students with a platform to showcase their creative recording and mixing abilities in stereo and surround classical, jazz, folk, world and pop/rock categories. A panel of distinguished industry professionals will review the finalists interactive presentations, and awards will be presented at the closing Student Delegate Assembly Meeting.

DESIGN COMPETITION: A showcase for student technical design skills. Multiple prizes will be awarded in areas of design concepts and prototypes.

2nd ANNUAL STUDENT PAPERS AWARDS COMPETITION: Papers Co-Chairs Agnieszka Roginska and Veronique Larcher will introduce the student paper selected (and presented) at the convention. The winning paper will also be published in the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society.
