Alkyl Plant For Jubail.The Chemtura Corporation Chemtura Corporation (NYSE: CEM) is a marketer of specialty chemicals, polymer products and processing equipment for a variety of industries. The company formed in 2005 from the merger of two other corporations -- Great Lakes Chemical Corporation of West Lafayette, Indiana, of the US and al-Zamil Group have announced plans to jointly have a worldscale metal alkyls plant built in Jubail. The two will form a JV to run the plant and produce aluminium alkyl alkyl /al·kyl/ (al´k'l) the monovalent radical formed when an aliphatic hydrocarbon loses one hydrogen atom. al·kyl n. , which is used as a catalyst for production of various olefins. The JV will licence Chemtura's proprietary alkyls technology for the plant. It will also serve as the sales and marketing arm for Chemtura's regional aluminium alkyls business. Outside the region, sales and marketing will be managed by Chemtura itself. Aluminium alkyl and, more specifically, triethylaluminum, is used as a catalyst in production of polymers such as polyethylene polyethylene (pŏl'ēĕth`əlēn), widely used plastic. It is a polymer of ethylene, CH2=CH2, having the formula (-CH2-CH2-)n and polypropylene polypropylene (pŏl'ēprō`pəlēn), plastic noted for its light weight, being less dense than water; it is a polymer of propylene.
