Alion names Wayne Self to Lead Program Management Office.


Technology solutions company establishes new role to support government-wide contracts

MCLEAN, Va. -- Alion Science and Technology Alion Science and Technology (pronounced: ah-LYE-un) is an employee-owned technology solutions company delivering technical expertise and operational support to the Department of Defense, civilian government agencies and commercial customers.  today announced that Wayne Self has joined the company as a Corporate Vice President, reporting to the Office of the CEO/COO, to establish a new Program Management Office which will maintain the company's GSA (1) (Global mobile Suppliers Association, Sawbridgeworth, U.K., www.gsacom.com) A membership organization of suppliers of GSM products and services. Alion COO, Stacy Mendler, said that Mr. Self's hands-on experience managing similar programs will make him a key asset at Alion. "Wayne has successfully fulfilled this role for many years, providing exceptional leadership and fiscal responsibility," Ms. Mendler said. Mr. Self has more than 30 years of information systems experience with major corporations. He has lead program management offices for numerous GWACs and has also acted as capture manager for many large government contracts. Prior to joining Alion, he was Senior Vice President, Operations, for Access Systems, Inc, where he had profit-and-loss responsibility for all of that company's contracts and operational staff. Before that, he was Vice President, GSA National Programs for General Dynamics General Dynamics Corporation (NYSE: GD) is a defense conglomerate formed by mergers and divestitures, and as of 2006 it is the sixth largest defense contractor in the world[1]. The company has changed markedly in the post-Cold War era of defense consolidation.  (formerly Veridian IT Services, Inc and Signal Corporation). He began his career in the US Air Force, where he ultimately became Vice Commander of the 1989th Communication Wing.
