The three-year contract was awarded under the Advanced Materials Advanced Materials is a leading peer-reviewed materials science journal published every two weeks. Advanced Materials includes Communications, Reviews, and Feature Articles from the cutting edge of materials science, including topics in chemistry, physics, , Manufacturing and Testing Information Analysis Center (AMMTIAC AMMTIAC Advanced Materials Manufacturing & Testing Information Analysis Center ) contract. Alion will conduct underwater explosion shock and vibration testing for Navy ship programs such as DDG 1000. This includes supplying subject matter expertise in establishing, implementing, monitoring and enforcing shock and vibration requirements related to ongoing ship design and construction programs that NSWC supports. DDG 1000 is the first in a class of the U.S. Navy's multi-mission surface combatants tailored for the littoral littoral /lit·to·ral/ (lit´ah-r'l) pertaining to the shore of a large body of water.

The NSWC is responsible for research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support for surface ship and submarine hull mechanical and electrical (HM&E) systems, surface warfare systems, surface ship combat systems, ordnance, mines, amphibious warfare systems, mine countermeasures, special warfare systems and strategic systems.

The period of performance runs through September 1, 2011.
