Alion Awarded $99 Million DoD Contract to Operate Materials and Manufacturing Technical Center.


MCLEAN, Va. -- Alion Science and Technology Alion Science and Technology (pronounced: ah-LYE-un) is an employee-owned technology solutions company delivering technical expertise and operational support to the Department of Defense, civilian government agencies and commercial customers.  has been awarded a contract with a potential value of up to $99M to operate the Advanced Materials, Manufacturing and Testing Information Analysis Center (AMMTIAC). AMMTIAC provides DoD and Defense industrial base contractors with engineering and technological support in three key areas: materials selection and behavior including process science and corrosion; manufacturing technology, including the application of advanced methods and robotics; and materials, manufacturing, and system inspection and testing Inspection and testing

Industrial activities which ensure that manufactured products, individual components, and multicomponent systems are adequate for their intended purpose.

AMMTIAC will provide capabilities formerly supported by three separate DoD Information Analysis Centers (IACs): Advanced Materials and Processes Technology IAC (AMPTIAC), Manufacturing Technology IAC (MTIAC) and the Nondestructive Testing IAC (NTIAC). Previously, Alion had operated AMPTIAC and MTIAC.

"This award provides a streamlined means for Alion to continue the successes achieved through operation of AMPTIAC and MTIAC," said Chris Amos, Alion Senior Vice President. "Through the AMMTIAC, Alion will be able to support the military's need for equipment and materiel that is more cost-effective, survivable, and longer-lived - providing lower overall ownership cost."

The Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Requirements contract has a three-year base with two optional renewal periods, for a total contract period of eight years. The contract was awarded for $4.1 million on December 30, 2005 and has a $33.9 million ceiling in its first 3-year period.
