Alien Technology RFID Products Successfully Complete EPCglobal Hardware Interoperability Test; Test Results Showcase Mature EPC Class 1, Gen 1 Ecosystem.

MORGAN HILL, Calif. -- Alien Technology Alien Technology is a manufacturer of RFID technology. The company is headquartered in Morgan Hill, California, with an RFID tag manufacturing facility in Fargo, North Dakota, the Alien RFID Solutions Center, in the Dayton, Ohio area, and sales offices in the US, Europe and Asia. (R) today announced that all four Alien(R) RFID readers that were presented successfully completed the EPCglobal Class 1 Gen 1 Hardware Interoperability test, the most comprehensive testing to date of interoperability between the over 20 vendors supplying EPC (1) (Entertainment PC) See HTPC.

(2) (Electronic Product Code) A standard code for RFID tags administered by EPCglobal Inc. (www.epcglobalinc.org).
Gen 1 RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) A data collection technology that uses electronic tags for storing data. The tag, also known as an "electronic label," "transponder" or "code plate," is made up of an RFID chip attached to an antenna.  products. Among the participating readers in the test, Alien's ALR-8780 is the only ETSI-certified European EPC reader. Alien's EPC Class 1 96-bit family of tags also demonstrated interoperability with all other Class 1 readers and printer programmers tested. Successful completion of the EPCglobal interoperability test is a prequalification requirement for many end-users' RFID hardware purchases.

"Alien is committed to global interoperability as a long-term strategy for the rapid growth of our company and the industry," said Steve Smith, Chief Technology Officer at Alien Technology. "These results demonstrate that the ecosystem of vendors supplying EPC Gen 1 readers, printers and tags forms a solid platform for current rollouts."

The testing evaluated the interoperability of Alien Technology's RFID tags and readers with those provided by twelve other manufacturers. MET Laboratories, a testing and consulting services company, administered the test February 15-17 on behalf of EPCglobal. In addition to its family of 96-bit EPC Class 1 tags, the following Alien Technology readers passed the tests: ALR-9774, ALR-9780, ALR-9460 and ALR-8780.
