, including the addition of new EPC Class 1 Gen 2 and Gen 1 tag solutions that set new price/performance standards for a variety of applications. As all Alien(R) Squiggle tags share the same standard "squiggle" antenna design, Squiggle family customers are freed from having to extensively reengineer and re-qualify their tagging processes when taking advantage of new Gen 2 technology. E[acute accent]"Given our position as a leading supplier of Class 1 tags, customer investment protection combined with the ability to address a wide range of tagging requirements is of paramount importance to Alien," said Keith McDonald, Sr. Vice President, Alien Technology Corporation. "With the new additions to the Squiggle family, customers have a seamless and cost-effective migration path to higher levels of performance, including being able to leverage Gen 2 technology. All Squiggle tags meet the same exacting levels of reliability and enable customers to source from the industry's largest number of RFID label suppliers--thus maximizing the value of customer investments across current and future tagging needs." E[acute accent]More than 50 million Alien Squiggle tags have shipped since the family was launched in 2003, making them the market's most widely adopted Class 1 tags. The new additions to the Squiggle family include a high-performance Gen 1 tag and two high performance Gen 2 tags. The new Gen 1 tag, the ALL-9340, uses enhancements to the fundamental squiggle antenna design to deliver a high-performance, cost-effective solution for specialized applications such as the tagging of certain products containing metal and liquids. The ALL-9340, available now, joins the original ultra-low cost, general purpose ALL-9338 to round out Alien's Gen 1 Squiggle family offerings. E[acute accent]Alien's two new Gen 2 offerings include the ALL-9440 and the ALL-9460 "Omni-Squiggle" tags. The ALL-9440, a drop-in replacement for the ALL-9338 and ALL-9340 when implementing Gen 2 capabilities, sets the price/performance benchmark for Gen 2 tags and is optimized for most packaging applications, including the tagging of cases containing certain products with metal and liquid. Designed for difficult tagging and reading environments, the new ALL-9460 leverages the fundamental strengths of the Squiggle antenna in a highly orientation-insensitive design, making it an optimum solution for challenging case and pallet level tagging applications. Samples are currently available for the ALL-9440 and ALL-9460.
