Alico announces Option to Purchase Agreement was signed with The Nature Conservancy Inc.LA BELLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1994--Ben Hill Griffin III, president and chairman of the board of Alico Inc., announced Thursday that an Option to Purchase Agreement was signed with The Nature Conservancy Inc. for 5,766 acres of Alico's land in Polk County, Fla. The total sales price, if the option is exercised, will be $8,295,500. The Agreement permits The Nature Conservancy Nature Conservancy, nonprofit organization established in 1951 to preserve or aid in the preservation of natural environments. It protects wilderness areas in the United States and Canada and is affiliated with similar groups in Latin America and the Caribbean. It maintains the world's largest private system of nature sanctuaries. to assign the option to the board of trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund of the state of Florida. The property is located east of Frostproof, Fla., on County Road 630. The land was recently listed as Priority No. 3 on the state of Florida's Conservation and Recreational Lands list. Griffin stated that: ``Alico is pleased to make this property available to the state of Florida. Alico and its predecessor companies have maintained this property in its present undeveloped state for more than 50 years.
