Business Editors, High-Tech Writers

the digital visual assets they already have in order to meet the changing demands of today's highly competitive marketplace.

"Companies that operate from a digital base not only become more efficient, they are able to extend their reach to global markets -- instantly," advised Walker.

New Technologies Create A Visual Explosion

Walker pointed to global acceptance of the Internet and the rise of inexpensive, extremely powerful graphics cards as reasons why today's business market is so focused on visualization.

"These advances provide an enormously rich visual experience," Walker said.

"They enable us to create extremely complex projects which can be produced much quicker and less expensively because there's no faster or more effective way to express an idea or to understand a concept than by seeing it," he explained.

Digital Assets Drive New Business Strategies

As head of the premier software company for the fields of industrial design, game development and film and video special effects, Walker said he's now seeing large companies such as auto makers and electronics manufacturers change the nature of their businesses. They are finding new ways to use billions of dollars of 2D and 3D data. "The smart ones understand the immense value of this asset and are using it to drive multiple processes all at the same time," Walker explained.

Walker used the automotive industry as an example. Car models have been created with 3D geometry for years. Some savvy auto makers are now using the same geometry for customer validation, process development, training, marketing materials and much more. "The really innovative companies are using photorealistic Having the image quality of a photograph.  renderings and animation to create television ads, print collateral and Web presentations even before the first car leaves the production line."

How Companies Like Alias/Wavefront Are Helping

"We at Alias/Wavefront recognize that when companies create rich digital libraries, they are dealing with very large amounts of data and they need better tools to help manage these intellectual properties," Walker said. "At present, we are focused on how to make 3D graphics easier to use so concepts can be created faster and used by people from different disciplines."
