The couple's reunion today in Fort Lauderdale to christen Princess' new Ocean Princess was the first time since the film's debut in March 1970 that the two have appeared together. No less a source than Time magazine, which put MacGraw on its cover, credited "Love Story" with bringing romance back to the movies after a decade that saw an increasing amount of sex and violence in the cinema. Both MacGraw and O'Neal earned Academy Award nominations for the film. "It's fitting that the actors of one of the most romantic movies of all time reunited to christen Ocean Princess during Valentine's Week," said Rick James, Princess Cruises' senior vice president of customer service and sales. "A Princess Cruises Love Boat is the perfect setting in which to celebrate the movie's 30th anniversary." MacGraw first came to the attention of moviegoers in the screen version of "Goodbye, Columbus." Her second film, "Love Story," earned her a Golden Globe award. Her third picture, "The Getaway," co-starring Steve McQueen, completed her trio of blockbuster films. Among her other screen credits are "Convoy" with Kris Kristofferson; "Players," co-starring Dean Paul Martin; the epic mini-series "The Winds of War" with Robert Mitchum and the hit television series "Dynasty." O'Neal's early career included a starring role on the popular soap opera "Peyton Place." In addition to "Love Story," he has appeared in more than 20 films, such as "What's Up, Doc?," co- starring Barbra Streisand, and "Paper Moon" with daughter Tatum O'Neal. "Zero Effect" with Bill Pullman and "Faithful" with Cher and Chaz Palminteri are among his most recent movies. O'Neal has also made many guest appearances on television, including "The Larry Sanders Show" and "Perry Mason." The launch of the 77,000-ton Ocean Princess continues Princess Cruises' multibillion-dollar expansion program, which will see the company double in size by 2004.
