Algor Introduces a New Way of Training Customers Using Latest Internet Technology.

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 13, 1999--

Algor, Inc., a leading maker of software for mechanical engineers today announced that its new "Web Courses" are successfully offering step-by-step Algor software instruction to its customers using state-of-the-art Internet audio/video technology. The Web Courses supplement Algor's classroom and customized, on-site education seminars, which have been educating Algor customers for over a decade.

"Web Courses provide a greatly expanded bandwidth between Algor and more than 16,000 of our customers in over 60 countries," said Michael Bussler, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Algor, Inc. "Algor has chosen to invest in this technology because the technology has developed to a point where educational content can be transmitted at a high quality."

Each Web Course registration includes: -0-
-- Access to the live Web Course using a password. Viewing the live
Web Course gives engineers the opportunity to phone or e-mail in
their questions and participate in the course.
-- Unlimited access to the replay of the Web Course for a personal
screening during a limited time period using streaming video
format, which enables viewers to "rewind" back to sections for
review or "fast-forward" to points of interest.
-- A video or CD-ROM containing the Web Course. Engineers who do not
have Internet access will also benefit from Algor's use of this
Internet technology. In addition, all Algor customers can build a
resource library of Web Courses for future reference.

The software education presented in the Web Courses not only helps Algor customers to be more productive and proficient with Algor software, but also contributes to the professional development of engineers. Algor's Web Courses have qualified for Professional Development Hours (PDH PDH - Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy ) within those states that have Continuing Professional Competency (CPC (1) (Central Processing Complex) An IBM mainframe that has two or more central processors (CPs) that share memory. It is the collection of processors, memory and I/O subsystems manufactured with a single serial number, typically all contained in one cabinet. ) requirements as a condition of license renewal for Professional Engineers. Web Courses offer a convenient way for engineers to fulfill PDH requirements through flexible self-study.

The Web Course page on Algor's homepage, www.algor.com, offers point-and-click access to all available Web Courses and a complete schedule of upcoming Web Courses with a detailed agenda for each course. All Web Courses are broadcasted in three bandwidths with top quality audio to reach viewers on all types of Internet connections from 56k modems to cable modems and T1 phone lines.

High-technology production techniques such as picture-in-picture integrate multiple camera views with direct computer-screen-to-video feeds to show the details of Algor software in action at any bandwidth from 56k modems to cable modems and T1 lines.

The streaming video format used for all Web Courses is compatible with Microsoft Media Player 6.0 and eliminates the download times associated with some other file types. Since most of Algor's customers operate on the Windows NT, Windows 95, or Windows 98 platforms, using Microsoft tools such as Media Player 6.0 and Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher offers maximum compatibility and reliability.

Algor has been a leader in the engineering software industry since introducing FEA for PCs in 1984 and interfacing with CAD systems in 1985. The company recently celebrated 20 years of providing finite element customers with innovative, affordable and easy-to-use software products and superior educational support and customer service.

Algor's most recent invention, Accupak/VE Mechanical Event Simulation software with linear and nonlinear material models, replaces physical prototype testing with virtual prototype testing because it realistically simulates motion and flexing in mechanical events and eliminates the need to input dynamic loads. Algor offers a range of other FEA capabilities including linear stress, vibration and natural frequencies, heat transfer, electrostatics electrostatics, study of phenomena associated with charged bodies at rest (see charge; electricity). A charged body has an excess of positive or negative charges, a condition usually brought about by the transfer of electrons to or from the body. , fluid flow, piping design and composite materials.
