proved one thing during yesterday's game with Doherty High: Never judge a pitcher after he has thrown to just two batters.

Along the way, the Tomahawks hit hard and often, laying the groundwork for a 13-1 victory at Commerce Bank Field at Foley Stadium.

Turner, a hard-throwing right-hander, finished with nine strikeouts. He lost both his no-hitter and shutout in the seventh when Doherty catcher Joe Goldstein rapped an RBI RBI

Cleanup hitters often have the most power on the team and are typically the team's best all-around hitter; their job is to "clean up the bases", hence the name.
Jean Batista reached on an error.

"It was tough not getting the no-hitter, but the most important thing is that we won the game - our guys played great defense and we hit the ball," Turner said. "In the beginning of the game, I had some problems but I was able to overcome them and get the ball down. Once that happened, everything went well and I threw strikes. This was a good, all-around effort by our guys, and a good win for our team."

Algonquin (6-1) put the game away with a seven-run fourth inning, expanding its 6-0 advantage to 13-0.

Cleanup hitter Graham Henningson delivered the big hit, a two-run homer. Mike Pelland contributed a two-run single. Will Kearney (bases-loaded walk), Kyle McGinnity (bases-loaded walk) and Henningson (single) added RBIs.

Dan Solis, who stroked three hits, had a two-run single in the third inning. Kevin Brown The name Kevin Brown can refer to several different people, including the following:

"It was good that we got our bats going in this game," Brown said. "When we're all hitting the ball, we're a much better team. And we have plenty of good hitters on this team. We're playing pretty good baseball right. But now we move on."

In addition to not hitting, the Highlanders were hurt by poor fielding. They did, however, get solid relief pitching from Eddie Capstick and Jeff Busha, who combined to blank Algonquin over the final three innings.

"You have to tip your hat to Graham Turner - he pitched an outstanding game and kept us off balance," Doherty coach Ed Whalen said. "After he walked our first two guys, he really settled down. He's a great pitcher.

"Right now, on the defensive end we're not playing good baseball. We need to go back to the fundamentals and start executing."
