Algoma Steel Corporation (TSX: AGA) was founded in 1902 by Francis Clergue, an American entrepreneur who had settled in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

A former recipient of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 in 1998, an award given to Canada's best corporate achievers, Turcotte leaves his position as Paper Group president and executive vice-president, corporate development and strategy, with forest products giant Tembec Inc.

"Mr. Turcotte is one of the leading executives in the Canadian forest products industry and has established himself as one of the country's rising business leaders," says Ben Duster, Algoma's chairman, in a news release. "He has an established track record of improving business results in large, process-intensive, heavy-manufacturing concerns with an emphasis on superior service to customers."
