Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture. (News & Notes).Dr. Lou Marinoff, author of the popular philosophical practice selfhelp book, Plato, Not Prozac, gave the Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture on November 9, 2001, in New York City. The lecture was sponsored by the Institute of General Semantics. Dr. Marinoff spoke about "General Semantics and Philosophical Practice: Korzybski's Contributions to the Global Village." Associate Professor of Philosophy at the City College of New York and founding president of the American Philosophical Practitioners Association, Marinoff has published numerous scholarly articles in decision theory, ethics, philosophy of science, philosophy of religion, and political philosophy. In his book Plato, Not Prozac: Applying Philosophy to Everyday Life (HarperCollins 1999) and in his practice, Dr. Marinoff shows clients how the ideas of the world's great thinkers can illuminate and improve our lives. ETC Editor Receives Award Jeremy Klein, Editor-in-Chief of ETC, has received the J. Talbot Winchell Award for outstanding work on behalf of general semantics. The award was presented at the Alfred Korzybski Memorial Dinner on November 9, 2001, at the Yale Club in New York City. The silver and black plaque reads: The J. Talbot Winchell Award of the Institute of General Semantics presented to JEREMY KLEIN for outstanding work on behalf of general semantics November 9, 2001 New York City Accepting the award for Jeremy Klein, who was unable to attend the dinner, Managing Editor of ETC Paul Dennithorne Johnston said that he had learned much from working with Klein, "The most well-read man I know." He then read a brief note from Klein: "Thank you for this honor and for your continuing support of ETC and other general semantics publications over the years. I wish to acknowledge the immense contributions made to the production of ETC by my collaborators Paul Johnston and Emily Sho-maker. Also, on this occasion, I must mention the much appreciated efforts of many writers and advisors ranging from such veterans as Ed MacNeal, Bob Wanderer, Lloyd and Mary Morain, Charles Russell, Greg Sawin, Milton Dawes, Robert Pula, and Martin Levinson, to such enthusiastic newcomers as Nora Miller.
