Alfalight Qualifies Uncooled Pump for High-Reliability Telecom and CATV Applications.

Testing to Telcordia Standard Proves Reliability for Network Equipment Manufacturers

MADISON, Wis adv. 1. Certainly; really; indeed.
v. t. 1. To think; to suppose; to imagine; - used chiefly in the first person sing. present tense, I wis. See the Note under Ywis.
. -- Alfalight, Inc., an innovative manufacturer of highly efficient and reliable high-power diode lasers See laser diode. , announced today the availability and qualification of its 4-watt, 940 nm multimode diode laser in accordance with the requirements of the Telcordia GR-468 standard. The new diode laser provides exceptional reliability and is ideally suited for CATV (Community Antenna TV) The original name for cable TV. It used a single antenna at the highest location in the community in order to deliver a quality signal to homes in areas with hilly terrain or other interference.  and telecom applications.

"Telcordia qualification is a prerequisite to widespread deployment by telecommunications and CATV equipment manufacturers, and this achievement underscores the quality and reliability of Alfalight's diode laser products," said Ron Bechtold, vice president of Sales and Marketing at Alfalight. "As part of the qualification process, Alfalight provided an extensive range of thermal, mechanical, and environmental testing to prove the durability and lifetime of this laser for our customers."

The Alfalight AM6-940A-20-408 is a multimode 940 nm diode laser in a high-reliability, uncooled, electrically-isolated package. It has a 105 micron micron: see micrometer.

One micrometer, which is one millionth of a meter or approximately 1/25,000 of an inch. The tiny elements that make up a transistor on a chip are measured in micrometers and nanometers. See process technology.
fiber output with 0.15 numerical aperture The measurement of the acceptance angle of an optical fiber, which is the maximum angle at which the core of the fiber will take in light that will be contained within the core. Taken from the fiber core axis (center of core), the measurement is the square root of the squared refractive  (NA) and meets all the requirements of Telcordia GR-468. It is fully hermetic hermetic /her·met·ic/ (her-met´ik) impervious to air.

adj.
Completely sealed, especially against the escape or entry of air.
, operates over a wide operating temperature range, and provides a path for customers to extend the performance and value of their optical amplifiers A device that boosts light signals in an optical fiber network. Unlike regenerators, which have to convert light to electricity in order to amplify it and then convert it back again to light, the optical amplifier amplifies the light signal itself. . The new uncooled laser is the latest addition to Alfalight's family of thermoelectrically-cooled, Telcordia-qualified multimode pump lasers offering up to 2.5 watts.

Availability

The new 4-watt, multimode 940 nm diode laser (Alfalight part number: AM6-940A-20-408) is available in volume now. Pricing and detailed specifications are available upon request.
