Alfalight 808 nm Laser Diodes Improve Laser System Pumping with Over 55% Power Conversion Efficiency.

Complete Line of Single Emitters Delivers 2.5 Watts and Wide Operating Temperature Range

, Calif. -- Alfalight, Inc., an innovative manufacturer of highly efficient and reliable high-power diode lasers See laser diode. , announced today at the Photonics West event (Booth # 242) the availability of their AMx-808B high-efficiency 808 nm line of chip-on-carrier and fiber-coupled single-emitter laser diodes A semiconductor-based laser used to generate analog signals or digital pulses for transmission through optical fibers. Both laser diodes and LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are used for this purpose, but the laser diode generates a smaller beam that is easier to couple with the smaller core . ) of these devices approaches 60% at room temperature and is over 55% across the entire operating temperature range of 0ae C to 50ae C. These diodes are ideal for pumping neodymium-doped micro-lasers with improved pump efficiency, resulting in longer pump diode lifetime and improved system efficiency.

"The high efficiency of Alfalight's new 808 nm pump diodes results from extending the success of the DARPA-funded SHEDS program to new wavelengths," said Ron Bechtold, vice president of sales and marketing at Alfalight. "Now our industrial as well as defense customers can take advantage of cutting-edge efficiency in our high-reliability diode lasers."

808 nm High-Efficiency Diode Laser Product Details

The new 808 nm chip-on-carrier lasers, available in a traditional C-mount package and Alfalight's small form factor Q-mount package (Alfalight part numbers: AMQ-808B-02-253 and AMC-808B-02-253), provide 2.5 watts of 808O3 nm light from a 100 om stripe stripe - data striping . The new device is also available in two fiber-coupled packages, a TEC-cooled 14-pin (Alfalight part number: AM4-808B-10-253) and an uncooled small footprint 6-pin (Alfalight part number: AM6-808B-10-253); both provide 2 watts of 808O3nm output into a 105 micron micron: see micrometer.

One micrometer, which is one millionth of a meter or approximately 1/25,000 of an inch. The tiny elements that make up a transistor on a chip are measured in micrometers and nanometers. See process technology.
, 0.15 numerical aperture The measurement of the acceptance angle of an optical fiber, which is the maximum angle at which the core of the fiber will take in light that will be contained within the core. Taken from the fiber core axis (center of core), the measurement is the square root of the squared refractive  (NA) fiber.

Availability

The new line of Alfalight AMx-808B high-efficiency 808 nm diode lasers are sampling now and will be available in volume in March 2007. Detailed specifications and pricing are available upon request.
