Alfalight's New Line of High-Power Diode Laser Bars Offers High Reliability, Brightness and Efficiency.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

MADISON, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 2004

Alfalight, Inc., an innovator and manufacturer of highly efficient and reliable semiconductor diode lasers See laser diode. , today announced the availability of its ALB1 family of high-power diode laser bars. The company's Aluminum-Free Active region (ALFA) diode laser bars provide superior power conversion efficiency and high reliability, as well as low series resistance, high thermal conductivity thermal conductivity

"These new unmounted bars provide our customers with the flexibility they need to incorporate our diode lasers into their own unique package designs," said Tom Earles, chief technology officer at Alfalight. "With continuous-wave output power capability reaching 60 watts and wall-plug efficiency over 50%, Alfalight's laser bars demonstrate that they can exceed the performance of traditional laser bars."

Alfalight's ALB1 series of standard laser bars offer wavelengths of 808, 915, 940 and 976 nm, with fill factors of 20, 30, 50 and 90%. The ALB1 series bars measure 10 mm long with a 1.0 mm standard cavity length; 1.5 and 2.0 mm cavity lengths are also available. The 808 nm bars have better than 1.1 watt/amp slope efficiency The slope efficiency is an important property of a laser. It is defined as the slope of the curve obtained by plotting the laser output power against the input pump power. It can similarly be defined in terms of output and input energies instead of powers. . Beam divergence The beam divergence of an electromagnetic beam is the increase in beam diameter with distance from the aperture from which the beam emerges in any plane that intersects the beam axis.  is typically 10(degrees) x 35(degrees) with TM polarization polarization

Availability

Alfalight's new ALB1 laser bars are available now in sample or high volume quantities at all standard wavelengths.
