Alfa Insurance Promotes Al Schellhorn to Senior Vice President of Corporate Development.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alfa Insurance (Nasdaq:ALFA) has promoted Al Schellhorn to Senior Vice President of Corporate Development. His responsibilities will include growing the Alfa family of companies through mergers and acquisitions, as well as coordinating corporate development activities. Mr. Schellhorn has served as Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions since joining Alfa in 1999.

"Under Al's leadership, Alfa has developed an effective M&A program. His leadership on our Vision Insurance and Virginia Mutual Insurance acquisitions established our position with the independent agency distribution and expanded our geographic footprint to 10 additional states," said Lee Ellis, Executive Vice President of Operations for Alfa. "I have tremendous confidence in Alfa's ability to expand in the insurance and financial services markets."

Prior to joining Alfa, Mr. Schellhorn was Vice President, Mergers and Acquisitions for MedPartners, Inc. (now Caremark Rx) and a Senior Consultant for Coopers & Lybrand, LLP (now PricewaterhouseCoopers.)

Prior to his business career, Mr. Schellhorn served for more than six years in the U.S. Army as an officer, commander and attack helicopter pilot. He left the Army with the rank of Captain and received numerous citations, including the Bronze Star Medal and the Air Medal for actions during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Mr. Schellhorn is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and earned his M.B.A. degree from Duke University. He and his wife, Tracy, have two children.
