Alexia Kondylis creates model residence for Grand Beekman.

Award-winning designer. Alexia Kondylis, daughter of celebrated: residential architect Costas Kondylis, has created a model tower residence for Grand Beekman, the first new condominium residence in the exclusive Beekman Place enclave in more than 25 years, announced Louise Sunshine, CEO of The Sunshine Group, Grand Beekman's exclusive marketing and sales agent.

The up-and-coming designer, who serves as creative director for Kondylis Interiors, blended an elegant palette of subtle tones and soft textures with architectural features to showcase the striking river and city views of the 28th floor Grand Beekman residence. To create a unified space, the rooms are painted in related tones evoking smooth cashmeres and soft suedes. Limestone and camel colors create a warm but architectural background for elegantly upholstered, custom designed furniture and a unique collection of antiques and furnishings. A 17th century Venetian glass minor in the entry foyer complements 21st century designs in a "collector eclectic" environment featuring a host of treasures brought back from travels to faraway lands.

The living room puts a modem polish on traditional design by offering a generous and versatile entertaining space, equally appropriate: for twenty guests or an intimate evening for two. Low daybeds tailored with Belgian linen are flanked with English Aesthetic Movement black lacquered end tables. An 18th century white. marble bust of Jupiter presides over the entry foyer, which features a collection of muted modern landscape photography from Perimeter Gallery in Chelsea. "Grand Beekman boasts the best in gracious living typical of Manhattan's prewar luxury apartments -- while offering every imaginable modem amenity and spectacular views at the same time," said Kondylis.

Employing a unique vision and a commitment to innovation, Kondylis, who was awarded the CFDA Grand Prize for Best Young Designer in 1999, has spearheaded a range of design projects for residential buildings, hotels, health clubs, boutiques and private homes. Her work has spanned a range of design vocabularies, from the classically traditional to the cutting-edge contemporary. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Developed by Izak Senbahar and Simon Elias and designed by Costas Kondylis, Grand Beekman, at the southeast corner of 51st Street and First Avenue, takes architectural cues from neighboring River House and features 89 exquisitely designed residences. The luxurious tower residences have 10 ft. ceilings and oversized bay windows providing panoramic river and city views. Many of the residences feature 3 bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms and formal dining rooms. Floors 24 through 29 have only two residences per floor.

In addition to a lush garden created by world-renowned designer Arnold Scaasi, Grand Beekman features an elegantly detailed conservatory with an atrium ceiling, a duplex fitness center and a children's playroom.
