Alexander, Christine (2011). Water Fitness Lessons Plans and Choreography.

Alexander, Christine (2011). Water Fitness Lessons Plans and Choreography. Champaign, IL: Human Kinetics. www.hkusa.com. ISBN 13-978-0-7360--9112-1 (e-book) or 978-4504-0190-6 (paperback), 189 pages, $30.00 paperback, $23.00 e-book.

This valuable resource has been designed to help new instructors learn basics of class organization, while keeping veteran instructors out of the proverbial "teaching rut." Presented are 72 lesson plans for shallow and deep water--each including warm up and cool down variations, choreography, and modifications. Each lesson plan for shallow water has a corresponding lesson plan for deep water, so instructors only have to remember specific exercise modifications to take a routine from one end of the pool to the other. This enables instructors to learn, remember, and feel comfortable offering a variety of class formats. Within the exercise and cueing tips chapters, 576 total exercises are described, using 253 photos illustrating key features of each exercise and corresponding choreography. Including are techniques for creating a well-flowing and successful class; tips for cueing, choosing music, and preparing for each class; and information for modifying classes to attract and cater to different populations including those with disabilities.

The book is divided into two sections with three chapters focusing on shallow water exercises and three chapters on deep water exercises. Lesson plans include objectives, needed equipment, teaching tips, warm up, conditioning phase, and cool down. A detailed glossary is provided.
