Alex Maghen, Former MTVi CTO, Joins Launch Media as Chief Technology Officer.

LAUNCH Media, Inc. (Nasdaq:LAUN) today announced that Alex Maghen has joined the company as Chief Technology Officer, a newly created position.

Maghen comes to LAUNCH from MTVi Group, Inc., Viacom's Internet music initiative, where he also served as CTO (Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. In his new role, Maghen will be based at the company's headquarters in Santa Monica, and will oversee all technology operations, including spearheading new directives in product development and technology partnerships.

As Chief Technology Officer at MTVi Group, Maghen was responsible for a large team that executed all technical operations including technology development, project management and infrastructure support for MTVi's domestic and international Web sites. Prior to his CTO position, Maghen was Vice President, Online & Interactive technology at MTV Networks MTV Networks is a division of media conglomerate Viacom that oversees the operation of many TV network and Internet brands, including the first MTV channel.

The company was established in 1984 after Warner Communications and American Express decided to divest the basic cable
, where he supervised MTV's convergence projects and the eventual spinoff of the MTVi properties.

Maghen joined Viacom in 1995 where he served as Director of Technology, Viacom Interactive Services, until 1996 when he became Vice President of Production & Technology, Nickelodeon Online. Maghen went to Viacom after four years at AT&T as Director of Content Software Development for AT&T Interactive Television Products.

Maghen earned a BS in Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering at Drexel University Drexel University, at Philadelphia, Pa.; coeducational; founded 1891 by Anthony J. Drexel, opened 1892, chartered 1894 as Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry. It was renamed Drexel Institute of Technology in 1936 and gained university status in 1970.  and completed the Graduate Program in Interactive Telecommunications at New York University New York University, mainly in New York City; coeducational; chartered 1831, opened 1832 as the Univ. of the City of New York, renamed 1896. It comprises 13 schools and colleges, maintaining 4 main centers (including the Medical Center) in the city, as well as the .
