It said: "The purchases are sympathetic to the building and part of an ongoing improvement programme to maintain the Georgian character of the house." Mr Salmond and his wife Moira live in a private sevenroom apartment above the official reception rooms. The revelations come after he was found to have claimed for items such as cake stands and paper racks as MP for Banff and Buchan, as well as a pounds 400-a-month food bill.
