Alex's Bute House gets pounds 7K revamp; EXPENSES.

ALEX Salmond's official residence had a pounds 7,000 summer makeover last year - with almost pounds 2,500 spent on a pair of light fittings, it emerged yesterday.

The First Minister's Edinburgh Bute House Bute House is the official residence of the First Minister of Scotland, who is the head of the Scottish Executive, the country's devolved government established in 1999. Prior to this it was the official residence of the Secretary of State for Scotland.  residence also took delivery of two tables worth pounds 4,250.

Documents revealed nearly pounds 7,000 of taxpayers' cash was spent on fittings for the plush grace-and-favour home in just one month.

The figures were released by the Scottish Executive. It said: "The purchases are sympathetic to the building and part of an ongoing improvement programme to maintain the Georgian character of the house."

Mr Salmond and his wife Moira live in a private sevenroom apartment above the official reception rooms.

The revelations come after he was found to have claimed for items such as cake stands and paper racks as MP for Banff and Buchan, as well as a pounds 400-a-month food bill.
