Alert rangers praised for action over 'scam' SECURITY: Community patrols commended for making a difference to combat crime.

Byline: By Michael Corley

QUICK-THINKING community wardens have been praised for their role in preventing what town centre bosses say was a potential scam (SCSI Configured AutoMatically) A subset of Plug and Play that allows SCSI IDs to be changed by software rather than by flipping switches or changing jumpers. Both the SCSI host adapter and peripheral must support SCAM. See SCSI. .

Two gangs, suspected of swindling unsuspecting shoppers, were caught allegedly trying to off-load a laptop box which contained nothing but catalogues in Rugby.

They were said to be close to conning a town centre shopper into buying a "laptop" when a group of Rugby Rangers from the town's BID (Business Improvement Districts) team stepped in.

"We strongly advise that the public do not get involved in situations like this. If it appears suspicious then do not get involved, as there really is no protection.

"This was a good result and we will continue to work closely with Rugby BID to catch the people behind scams such as this."

Aftab Gaffar, Rugby BID operations director, said: "Helping to stop a scam is a great achievement for our team.

"It is good to see that both the rangers and the CCTV in Rugby are making a real difference in helping to combat crime in our town centre."

Service to be extended

The BID team was set-up to stop crime in Rugby's industrial parks.

They are part of a public/private partnership which operates CCTV for the borough council, and is now extending the service to trading estates.

It also runs the town's retail radio system and has a link to Rugby police's control room.

To assist the team, six Rugby Rangers patrol the town using radios.

They are easily spotted by their red baseball caps and polo shirts.
