 Council Trading Standards Service is urging people to take care with their money, shop around for the best deal on store cards and avoid falling victim to criminal moneylenders.

"They lend money illegally, without a credit licence and often with extortionate repayment rates."

Coun Bob Young, cabinet member for trading standards, said: "Christmas can be stressful for families on limited budgets but they should try to avoid falling into the grip of loan sharks." Anyone who has information about, or who has fallen victim to loan sharks can anonymously call 0800 0304 210 or send a text message to Net(space)Shark(space) followed by your message and send to 60003.
