Alert on Nimrods.

SAFETY fears have been raised about the RAF's fleet of Nimrod planes after a probe found a catalogue of engine failures and fuel leaks.

Fourteen British servicemen died in September when a Nimrod MR2 crashed in Afghanistan after mid-air refuelling.

But the BBC's Panorama found a series of similar incidents, including a fire burning through bomb bay cables and pipes leaking in mid-air refuelling.

One crewman tells the show, on at 8.30pm tonight: "The bottom line is her age." An ex-Air Vice Marshall said: "The service is at total overstretch."
