Alereon Fills First Advisory Board Positions with Wireless Experts; Drs. Ted Rappaport and Kumar Ganapathy to Provide Technology Expertise.


AUSTIN, Texas -- Alereon, a leading fabless semiconductor company developing wireless solutions for the Ultrawideband See UWB. (UWB) and Wireless USB (W-USB) markets, announced today creation of an advisory board, and the appointment of the board's first two members. The advisory board will support Alereon's executive leadership in the ongoing planning and execution of business and technology development strategy.

The Alereon advisory board is a potent mix of proven wireless, semiconductor and business expertise. The following individuals will participate, with additional members to be named later:

--Professor Theodore (Ted) S. Rappaport, P.E., Ph.D.; William and Bettye Nowlin Chair in Engineering, University of Texas at Austin; Director, Wireless Networking and Communications Group (WNCG WNCG - Wireless Networking and Communications Group (University of Texas at Austin)). Rappaport is active in numerous entrepreneurial and academic endeavors, as well as domestic and international regulatory bodies, including the Technology Advisory Council for the Federal Communications Commission, National Academy of Science, IEEE and International Telecommunications Union.

--Kumar Ganapathy, Ph.D.; Executive in Residence, Artiman Ventures. Previously, Ganapathy was the Chief Technical Officer and co-founder of VxTel, developer of VoIP DSP processors and subsystems, which was acquired by Intel in 2001. At Intel, he was a Director of Architecture and Engineering in Ultrawideband Networking Operation (UWB) and Edge Access Division (VoIP, 3G BTS) as well as in the CTO office of the Intel Communication Group. Before co-founding VxTel, he was Principal Engineer and Fellow of Conexant and Rockwell Semiconductor leading the development of 56-kbit modems and GSM phones. Ganapathy has published over a dozen papers and has been issued sixteen patents.

Working in conjunction with leading end-equipment manufacturers in these industries, Alereon's products will provide complete solutions for Multi-band OFDM UWB-based applications, including a new wireless version of the Universal Serial Bus (USB).
