Alere Medical Aligns Key Management for Expected Growth.

Additions, Changes Position Company to Expand Offerings, Markets

RENO, Nev. -- Alere Medical Inc., a leading health management company, today announced several significant management changes to position the company for future growth and expansion into new markets.

Janet Tewhill, MHA, is being promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer to oversee Alere's expanding operations. Ms. Tewhill was most recently EVP/COO, and contributed significantly to Alere's growth as the company nearly doubled in size during the last year. In her expanded role she will be responsible for all day-to-day company operations including information systems, call centers and communication systems, enrollment and engagement, clinical operations, manufacturing, human resources, and client services.

Gordon K. Norman, MD, MBA, will become EVP/Chief Science Officer to advance Alere's industry leadership in scientific accountability and transparency of its results. He will oversee all quality activities, medical informatics and outcomes reporting. He will work closely with Alere's Scientific Advisory Board as the company continues to expand its offerings. Dr. Norman will also continue his industry-leading work with the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA), where he is Chairman of the Quality and Research Committee. He is working closely with other DMAA members in developing a transparent and universal methodology to measure the results generated by disease management (DM) companies.

Jon Tropsa will join Alere as its new EVP/Chief Financial Officer, as current CFO Wayne Krachun retires. Mr. Tropsa was most recently CFO of Aptuit of Connecticut, and was previously senior finance officer at Dictaphone and ChiRex. He will manage all financial operations and reporting of the company as Alere continues its rapid growth in light of its recent $150 million acquisition by TA Associates, a Boston-based private equity firm.

Timothy J. Moore, MD, MS, will become EVP/Chief Medical Officer to focus on expanding Alere's offerings to additional diseases and conditions. Dr. Moore was most recently responsible for Alere's sales and client services, and will continue to oversee Alere's health plan client relationships. In his role as CMO, Dr. Moore will work to develop new programs that advance Alere's industry-leading results in heart failure, coronary artery disease, diabetes, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He will also work to develop new programs as Alere expands to offer total health solutions.

Michael Majerik will join Alere as its new EVP/Chief Sales and Marketing Officer to focus on advancing the company's growth as it expands into markets beyond health plans. Mr. Majerik comes to Alere from Magellan, the country's leading mental health vendor, where he has been Chief Sales and Marketing Officer. He was previously EVP of Sales for CorSolutions, a leading DM company before being acquired in 2006. Mr. Majerik is known for his experience in the DM industry's health plan and employer markets.

Douglas Albro has joined Alere as its new EVP/Chief Information Officer, to lead the company into the future as it offers expanded information solutions to its constituents including payers, providers and enrollees. Mr. Albro joins Alere from BCBS Excellus in Rochester, NY, where he has been in charge of information services and medical informatics. He was previously at Humana, where he was responsible for networks and IT infrastructure. A skilled IT executive whose specialty includes the "user experience," Mr. Albro will continue the evolution of Alere's industry-leading Allegro information system.
